Tony Horwitz – Midnight Rising

Author and Tony Horwitz speaks on his book “Midnight Rising,” a portrait of John Brown on his 1859 raid of Harpers Ferry. Chosen by the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle as one of two books for Week Three, “Midnight Rising” is compelling and character-driven, a trait shared by all the 2012 CLSC selections. “‘Midnight Rising’ is a portrait of a man so obsessed, and it is also a portrait of a man of actions reduced to a paragraph in your history books,” according to Sherra Babcock, director of the Department of Education.
