Hand Stitching and Embellishing the Alabama Chanin Way

Hand Stitching and Embellishing the Alabama Chanin Way

The Alabama Chanin way offers a fresh take on age-old hand stitching techniques. Join me in exploring these techniques, such as applique and reverse applique. We’ll talk about different types of stitches, from the running stitch to elaborate embroidery stitches, and their applicable uses. I’ll go over some of my favorite tips and tricks to help make for a smooth, successful sewing experience. We’ll touch on materials, pattern cutting, beading, and stenciling; and you’ll learn garment construction. Since this is all hand stitching, there’s no sewing machine required. You’ll enjoy how portable these projects are. You can work on them practically anywhere.

About this class:
Natalie demystifies the process in this workshop, showing you how to add depth and texture to a cotton table runner. The technique is worked on two layers of fabric, with the top layer stenciled and then stitched to the backing layer. Once stitched in place, parts of the top layer are cut away to expose the color below for a satisfying final reveal.
